Info

Rewind to 96, spinback to 97: Phil Weeks digs deep into the Classic legacy for two long-forgotten bombs.
Taken from Acid, a short-lived sub-label from Derrick Carter and Luke Solomon’s flagship CMC stable, they come courtesy of Nail Tolliday. A highly consistent and influential artist in UK underground house since the 90s, he ran the cult label Velocet (and now runs 89:Ghost) and operates under a whole range of aliases. Including, for just two Acid outings, D.S Priest.
‘When I See You’ captures the essence of what Classic and its sister joints were all about. Well-oiled jacking grooves, introspective but not shy of a little sass, insistence and funk. There’s never been a time when a groove like this hasn’t been relevant.
‘You Thought Right’ exudes timelessness; those light-headed jazzy chords, the voluptuous slap-bass bassline that ripples beneath and that warm grainy texture meld and blur together with a powerful uplift as the track develops. Quintessential house that transcends time and regions; this brings everything we love about this music together…. And has done for 22 years.
Rewind. Come again
