Summer vibes ahoy! Phil Weeks steams into the silly season with his State-side kindred spirit C.J Larsen with two outstanding sunny-side jackers.
Created in the depths of C.J.’s San Francisco based Smoke Box studio, ’Rock Steady’ starts the engine with a heady organ salvo before settling into a loose-limbed groove that’s held together tightly by salubrious funk guitars and percussive details. A genuine party-igniter, every single ingredient in here packs with maximum flavour. ‘Get Back’ follows suit and maintains the balmy vibes; another heady chugging beat, snake-like keys and a bassline that wriggles and bumps from here to the sun and back and just a smidgeon of spoken word guidance.
Complete with a dub and a guarantee that more Robsoul shots will be fired in the imminent future, Phil & C.J. are in full summer mode… And regardless of what your local weatherperson is saying, you should be by now too.
